Jay hopes that the match will spark something in her she’s been lacking.
Anna Jay’s Wednesday night was a very emotional one.
Two tag matches were held to honor the late Brodie (Jon Huber) Lee, as AEW returned home to Jacksonville last night for Dynamite. The women’s match saw Jay, Willow Nightingale & Thunder Rosa defeat Skye Blue & Julia Hart & Saraya.
Jay and Lee were both members of The Dark Order in AEW. Jay won last night’s match by submitting Blue to honor her mentor.
AEW posted a post-show with Jay on Thursday, where she reflected on what Lee means to her career.
He’s the one who got me started in AEW. He was there from the start, as soon as I signed up at 21. He took me under his wings. He was my mentor when I first joined The Dark Order. He taught me what was right and wrong, what to say and what not to say.
It’s hard to imagine not having him. Tonight really sparked in me something I don’t think I’ve had since then. He was someone who gave me a great deal of hope at the beginning. Recently, I haven’t had that feeling. You know what? I feel like, as I said, tonight has kind of ignited that in me again. I feel like I am ready again.
Jay became emotional when she was asked if Lee would be proud.
Oh, goodness. I hope so. I hope so. But, as I said, tonight has kind of given me that spark again to keep going where I may have lost some of it. Though I think I want to make him even more proud.
Lee died in December 2020 at the age of 41.
In the other match, which was also in honor of Lee, on last night’s Dynamite show, Preston Vance and Adam Copeland defeated Bishop Kaun, Toaliona, Brian Cage, and Lance Archer. In that match, Vance, Lee’s protégée, pinned Kaun.
