Rhodes is determined to headline WrestleMania 40.
Cody Rhodes doesn’t seem to be bothered by recent WWE returns from Dwayne Johnson, “The Rock”, and CM Punk.
Rhodes has been trying to reach that spot since he lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39’s main event. He wants to finally defeat Reigns and win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The Rock and Punk’s return may have brought some competition, but Rhodes insists he won’t be flinching.
Rhodes told Sports Illustrated that “The Rock is the Great One. He’s still electrifying.” “CM Punk has to be one of the greatest wrestlers in history. I know who I’m up to. Look at the roster. It’s filled with stars. That doesn’t bother you. I’m not flinching. “I’m not working against anyone else. I’m simply trying to make it happen.”
Rhodes made similar comments on Busted Open Radio in November last year. Rhodes said that it would be great if The Rock was at WrestleMania, but Rhodes does not think The Rock will compete in the main event against Reigns.
The Rock surprised WWE fans by making a surprise appearance on Raw’s Day 1 last week. The Rock teased that he would be facing Reigns at the end of his WWE appearance. Rock said that he wanted to sit at the head of the table.
Punk returned to WWE after nearly a decade of absence at Survivor Series. WWE is building up to Punk taking on Seth Rollins at WrestleMania forty for the World Heavyweight Championship, but the company has plans for a Punk-Reigns feud.
Reigns defends his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in a fatal four way match against Randy Orton (the current champion), LA Knight and AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble, which takes place on Saturday, 27th January.
The first two wrestlers who declared for the men’s Royal Rumble in 2024 were Rhodes and Punk. Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre also declared.
Rhodes won the 2023 Royal Rumble for men. He wants to win the Rumble in 2019 and go back-toback.
Rhodes told Sports Illustrated that “the milestones continue to build.” “We are always reaching new heights. “Who is the face? That’s my goal. This is another level I must reach. “Hopefully, that will start at the Royal Rumble.”
In the Raw main event last night, Rhodes defeated Nakamura with a street brawl. Punk and McIntyre had a promo fight on the episode.
