Tyler Bate made SmackDown’s debut on Friday, reuniting Butch in a tag-team match.
SmackDown’s New Year’s Revolution episode began with the story that Butch (the ex-Pete Dunne) had to find a mysterious partner for his match with Pretty Deadly. British Strong Style reunited as Butch & Bate beat Elton Prince & Kit Wilson.
Bate and Butch gave Wilson a double Tyler Driver 1997. Bate pins Wilson to win.
Bate and Butch have been associated with each other throughout their careers, both as stablemates and adversaries. In 2017, Bate beat Butch to become NXT United Kingdom’s first champion. Butch won Bate’s title in a classic match later that year at NXT TakeOver Chicago.
Bate was moved to the NXT team after NXT UK shut its doors in 2022. Dave Meltzer reported in the last month that “at least there was talk” about the 26-year old Bate being called to the WWE main lineup.
Bate competed in the Iron Survivor Challenge men’s match at NXT Deadline, December. The match was won by Trick Williams.
Dragon Lee retained his North American Championship by defeating Bate in the episode of NXT broadcast on December 12.
