Shibata spent the majority of 2023 wrestling with the company.

Tony Khan announced that Shibata signed with AEW shortly before Saturday’s Collision. In his announcement, he expressed gratitude to New Japan Pro Wrestling who made it possible.

Khan shared with him a letter Shibata had sent to him. In it, Shibata wrote:

Dear Tony Khan

Today, I signed the contract with AEW. This was done under the permission of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

I have learned a lot about AEW/ROH in the past year.

This is the perfect environment for wrestlers to focus on the ring.

Tony and his staff are filled with a love of professional wrestling.

I want The Wrestler to end his career in the AEW ring.

I dedicate my wrestling life to Tony Khan and AEW.

Katsuyori Shbata

Shibata began his wrestling career with AEW in late 2022. He won the ROH Pure Championship by defeating Wheeler Yuta at Supercard of Honor in early this year. On the November 25, Rampage edition, he lost his title back to Yuta.
