WWE teases the return of Authors of Pain with a SmackDown vignette in todays Wrestling news

A Karrion Kross Vignette was shown on Friday’s Episode.

WWE teased that The Authors of Pain would be returning and aligning with Karrion & Scarlett.

During a Kross & Scarlett vignette in Friday’s SmackDown, an image of Akam Rezar and Paul Ellering was shown in silhouette. Kross used “Authors”, implying that the group would be returning to the company, and forming an alliance with Kross & Scarlett.

Akam & Rezar were former NXT Tag Team Champions. They also won the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. They made their NXT debut in 2016 with former Road Warriors Manager Ellering and were heavily pushed as a monster team in the Road Warriors mould.

Drake Maverick was appointed manager of the group after Ellering was promoted to WWE’s main-roster in April 2018. Ellering was replaced by Drake Maverick shortly thereafter. Akam &Rezar, who had a Raw Tag Team title and an alliance with Seth Rollins in March 2020 after a Raw Tag Team reign, were taken off TV due to an injury suffered by Akam. Both were then released from their contracts at the end of September 2020.

Fightful reported in May of this year that Akam & Rezar were re-signing with the company by 2022. Travel for the group was planned as early 2023. Fightful reported this week that Akam & Rezar’s return to WWE TV was imminent.
