The NXT star will face Grayson Waller in Friday’s SmackDown.
Carmelo Hayes is going to take part in the WWE United States Championship Contender’s Tournament.
Shawn Michaels revealed in a video on WWE’s social media pages on Sunday that Hayes would be the NXT superstar facing Grayson Waller on Friday, December 15, SmackDown in a quarterfinals bout.
The inclusion of an NXT superstar in the tournament was announced from the beginning, but the reveal wasn’t made until after the Michaels video.
Hayes won the NXT Deadline event on Saturday, defeating Lexis King.
Kevin Owens and Austin Theory will meet again in the quarterfinals on Friday’s SmackDown. Bobby Lashley, Santos Escobar and the other half of the bracket have already advanced to semifinals following their wins on Friday’s episode.
The winner of the tournament will face United States Champion Logan Paul on a date to be announced. Paul defeated Rey Mysterio in the Crown Jewel event last month to win the US title.
