Bobby Lashley claims that some WWE locker room members were “very opposed” to CM Punk returning.
Lashley recently spoke with Steve Fall and was asked if Punk would be returning to the company.
“I was actually departing around the time Punk really started to pick up some steam. He was there, but he didn’t really do anything. Lashley said, “I know he made a huge impact in WWE during his time there.”
“I spoke to some of the guys who knew him (and) I got mixed feelings. Some people were against it, while others were like, “You know, whatever.” It’s a land of opportunity. “So, if he returns and helps out with the show, then that’s business.”
Lashley revealed that he already has an angle in place with Punk, should they ever cross paths within WWE.
Lashley said, “I don’t know Punk that well, but when I was fighting he went to UFC and I put my money on it, so he does owe a little money.” “Twice! I was like ‘No! He can do it. Come on!’
Lashley said that he hoped Punk would be given the chance to earn his place back in WWE, rather than having it handed to them.
Lashley added, “I know he is a big-named artist, he will be back, and he will do some big numbers. But I hope that they make him work for some of it.”
“I hope that they give him the opportunity to prove his loyalty to the company and to some of the employees in there to let everyone know, to some of those who aren’t happy about him being at the job. I hope he gets the chance to work his back up to top and not be given everything just because he negotiated an excellent contract that allowed him to.”
Lashley will wrestle in Providence, Rhode Island on Friday during the Tribute to the Troops SmackDown episode. He’ll wrestle Karrion Kross on Friday in a United States Title contender tournament match.
