Jericho defeated Mark Briscoe during a ladder-war match to win his ninth world title. Rocky Romero chased Bryan Keith away with a Kendo stick after he tried to interfere in the finish. Mark hit the Jay Driller, and then went to climb the ladder. Big Bill ran through the crowd and slammed Briscoe into the tables outside the ladder with a chokeslam. Bill placed Jericho onto his shoulders, and climbed the ladder. This allowed Jericho to win the title.
Tomohiro Ishii and Romero appeared after the match. The announcers mentioned that Jericho and Learning Tree had defeated Ishii a few weeks ago.
Briscoe held the title for 202 days before he won it back on April 5, when he defeated Eddie Kingston. It was his first World title despite his long tenure with Ring of Honor.
In recent weeks, Jericho has been focusing his attention on the Conglomeration and Briscoe’s ROH World Championship. Jericho made the rivalry personal by mentioning Briscoe’s older brother Jay in a promotional video. Briscoe shoved Jericho as a result. Briscoe successfully defended his title at WrestleDream by defeating Jericho using the Jay Driller. This was his brother’s finishing maneuver.
