EVIL will face Hiroshi Tanahaashi at Wrestle King 19.
EVIL appeared unexpectedly at the end of Tanahashi’s press conference Tuesday regarding his upcoming pension. He confronted Tanahashi. The House of Torture leader informed Tanahashi that NJPW was his company and he would tell Tanahashi the date of his retirement, which will be January 4, 2025. Tanahashi replied by saying that beating EVIL in the Tokyo Dome was not only the best way to start 2025, but also his retirement path.
Tanahashi announced that he would be retiring at Power Struggle this past weekend. He said his last match would take place at Wrestle kingdom 20 on January 4, 2026. EVIL and House of Torture ambushed Tanahashi after his announcement. EVIL declared that he will be the one to decide when Tanahashi’s professional career ends.
Tanahashi, during the press conference, cited his physical condition, citing issues with his abs and knees, as a reason for his retirement. He also mentioned his new position as NJPW’s President, saying that he would transition to a full-time role after his retirement.
He has expressed interest in wrestling singles matches against everyone on the NJPW roster, including established stars and young lions. He is also interested in wrestling Katsuyori Shbata and Shinsuke Nkamura.
He said, “They are rivals that I created.” “There are many hurdles to overcome, but we’ll be able to see.”
Tanahashi hoped to retire in 2026 with a happy life.
He said, “I’ve been to a lot retirements and seen a lot.” “I always cry when I retire, but I want to leave with a smile.”
