Ethan Page has gained a lot from his experience in holding the NXT Championship.
Page, who is now the NXT champion for almost three months, joined this brand in May, shortly after leaving AEW. He’s scheduled to defend his title against Trick Williams on The CW Network when NXT debuts next Tuesday (October 1). Chris Van Vliet interviewed Page on Insight in advance of the match.
Page described his NXT experience as “validating”. Shawn Michaels booking Page as a top-tier star has been a lifelong dream.
“Validating? Page told Van Vliet, “I think that’s a perfect word: validating.” Imagine that you’ve had this vision for your entire life, but no one else has the same vision. Then, miraculously, the greatest wrestling champion of all time has the same vision and says, “I’ll allow you to do that.” And here I am. Yeah, the boyhood fantasy, dude.”
Page stated that when he decided to leave AEW he didn’t know that signing with WWE would be a possibility. He had booked all of his indie dates through 2024 before he received a call from WWE.
Page felt it was time to make a shift in AEW. He could tell that he was “going downhill” and he knew he needed to do something.
“It was the right time.” He said, “Yeah, it was time,” about leaving AEW. “I wasn’t getting the same thing I got here, namely the chance to show what I can do.”
Page and Williams are both scheduled to participate in a NXT press conference tonight (September 24) before the CW premiere next week.
