Vince McMahon attempted to buy the “Mr. Netflix has a docuseries called “Mr.
McMahon made a statement yesterday about the project, saying that from an early cut of the film he has seen, it conflates his character Mr. McMahon on WWE programming with the real him. Ann Callis, Janel Grant’s lawyer, responded to McMahon’s comments. She said that Grant and her team had not seen the documentary but hoped it would shed light on McMahon’s criminal and abhorrent actions.
Matthew Belloni, of Puck News, discussed McMahon’s attempt to purchase the docuseries on Tuesday in his “What I’m Hearing?” newsletter.
Belloni wrote: “After seeing the early footage, (McMahon), actually tried to purchase the project back from Netflix,” Belloni wrote. He also noted Netflix’s refusal to comment.
“Vince had Endeavor C.E.O. Ari Emanuel – his new partner at TKO – spoke on his behalf and expressed concern over the documentary’s treatment of Vince McMahon’s alter ego ‘Mr. McMahon’, which ended up as the title of the documentary.”
“Netflix refused the project to go and then, this past January, came the worst McMahon controversy, when a former worker sued, alleging terrible abuse.”
“The deal with Netflix had been signed a few days before Janel Grant’s lawsuit was filed. This was not a deal that was done behind closed doors. Netflix had some people who weren’t too happy about this deal, but they signed and went along with it. There were people who were nervous about doing business with WWE.
