WWE’s decision to use Megan Thee Stallion’s “Neva Play”, as the new SmackDown song, surprised some.
According to a PWInsider report, Megan Thee Stallion was expected to work with Mercedes Mone at AEW. The deal with WWE “caught Mone’s circle by surprise.”
The Grammy-winning artist and Mone met in Japan in February during the Crunchyroll Animation Awards. The managers of both artists began to negotiate about doing something in AEW together. TMZ reported that a deal had been reached, and Mone teased her about getting in the ring during an interview last month.
She said, “Whether she’s going to be my tag-team partner or my rival, we’ll have to see. But I want to get Meg Thee Stallion into the ring very soon, very soon,” she said. Mone revealed that the two had discussed working together before, but it never came to fruition.
Megan Thee Stallion wrote on Friday that she thought it was finally time to make her debut after a clip of one of her songs was played on SmackDown.
It’s unclear if Megan Thee Stallion would be able to work with AEW if WWE had a deal to use her music on SmackDown.
