Batista claims he would not want to do a retirement tour, like John Cena.
The 50-year old has been making the rounds in the media to promote his new movie The Killer’s Game which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival last night. Batista told Chris Van Vliet that he had ended his career in the way he wished, which is very different from the path Cena has chosen.
“I get along well with John. I respect John much more than most people think, for some reason. I think that the internet and fans have created this rivalry, which is not real, but this is what makes us different,” he said. “I would never do [retirement tour]. I wouldn’t and I couldn’t. “It would be disingenuous for me to go around and I simply couldn’t.”
“He wants me to go around to all the fans and personally thank them, but I couldn’t. It would make me uncomfortable. Accolades are uncomfortable for me. I could never be a babyface who said good things to get the crowd cheering for me. I couldn’t have been that guy.”
“I love and respect the work he is doing to thank his fans with this tour, but we are just different in that way. I couldn’t. I retired the way I wanted. I retired in the way I wanted. I didn’t make a big fuss about it. I announced my retirement via Instagram, and I knew that I would do it. I didn’t tell anyone I was retiring because I didn’t want anyone to say no, no. You have to come in and give a speech to the fans. I don’t think it was the whole thing that felt false. I couldn’t do that.”
The Killer’s Game will be released in theaters on 13 September. The film stars Batista as Joe Flood.
