Jim Ross does not believe that the Plaintiffs of a recent lawsuit filed against AEW are likely to have much success.
JR and Conrad Thompson shared a video of the legendary broadcaster on Wednesday, in which he gives his thoughts about the news that Kevin Kelly & The Tate Twins filed a lawsuit against the company.
JR was specifically asked about the part of the lawsuit asking the court to certify a group-action suit against AEW because it classified its talent as independent contractors instead of employees.
JR said, “When you sign a contract, you agree with the terms.” “That would include being an Independent Contractor.”
“The Plaintiffs will run out of cash before Tony Khan,” he continued. “I don’t think they’ll get a settlement, but I could be wrong.” I’m neither a judge nor a lawyer.
“I dislike these types of lawsuits.” I think that they are frivolous. You would think guys could come together and work out a deal before spending money on an attorney who is probably doing it based on a “if you win, then you get this. If you don’t, no harm no foul.” Well, there’s harm, but you knew exactly what you were signing when you signed the deal.
“I don’t know who those two wrestlers are (Brendan Tate and Brandon Tate) that you’re referring to.” I know who they’re. Kevin Kelly has been a friend of mine for many years. I was saddened to see him go. He was unhappy, I think. He wanted a larger role that wasn’t offered to him. Then all of a suddenly he’s gone, and it’s unfortunate because he had a lot to give.”
Kelly and Tate’s lawyers have also requested a class action lawsuit. They claim that ROH commentator Ian Riccaboni harmed Kelly by linking him to QAnon conspiracies during a Discord discussion. The Tate twins claim that Tony Khan defamed them after he publicly stated that he released them due to their failure to show up for events. They say this was a result a miscommunication with management after they had been booked to fly from a different airport to the one they usually use.
