Jamie Hayter has opened up about her injury that has kept her out of the game for more than a year.
Hayter told Renee Paquette that she had herniated both discs in her spine, which prevented her from working for 15 months. Hayter told Paquette she was unable to move when she realized the severity of the injury.
I didn’t realize the injury was so bad until it got really bad. I was unable to walk. I couldn’t stand up straight. My body was at a slight angle, and I couldn’t do much. I could not laugh, sneeze or cough. I also couldn’t sit, stand in the shower or lay on my back. I thought at first it was a sciatica.
She finally went to the doctor and found out what was wrong.
I was happy, because I had not known for so many years and I wanted to find out what it was and get back on the road to recovery. It was a bad situation to be in.
Hayter expressed her doubts about whether she would ever wrestle again. She explained that she had been bedridden for months with the injury and in constant pain. Once the pain subsided, and she was able to exercise in the gym and ring again that motivated her to come back.
It got to the point where I didn’t even know if I wanted to do it again. I don’t understand why. I think the pain and all that happened was the reason. I wasn’t sure. It was like I had to find me again, my purpose, and my passion in order to do it again.
When the pain from my injury subsided, I was able to see the light more. I was in constant pain. It was not fun, I was bed-bound and couldn’t do much. I could watch videos on my phone, or read books in bed. Once the pain subsided I was able to start moving again. Being physically active is what I enjoy most.
Hayter returned to pro wrestling last month at All In, defeating Saraya. Her first match was on Dynamite last week, where she defeated Harley Cameron. She told Paquette she felt “200 percent” better than ever.
