Jake Lee has signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The Bullet Club War Dogs brought Lee into the company as part of a storyline to attack Tetsuya Nairo, which he did in an April show at Korakuen Hall. In April, he joined the War Dogs for an Elimination match with LIJ in Hiroshima. He returned to the G1 Climax in July and finished with 8 points.
Lee held a news conference on 3 September to announce that he was now a full time member of the NJPW roster.
“Do you understand what this is?” he asked, holding up an envelope that contained his new contract. “Quite probably, yes. “New Japan Pro-Wrestling did everything it could to sign me and I signed out of the goodness in my heart.”
“As a War Dogs member, I should cause havoc in this ring. “Smartly,” Lee continued.
Lee was asked if he would hold a press conference in order to announce his signing. This is something that is rarely done by “heels”.
“I would like you to think about the answer before asking me,” Lee replied. “But as kindly as I can, I will answer. I’m a scumbag in the ring or, to put it better, a liar, a thief, and a Smart Bastard. I do have a kinder, more compassionate side. You can say that’s a part of my intelligence. I hosted this press event out of kindness or my brain. “How about it?”
When asked if he would ever sign with AEW or WWE one day, Lee replied:
“Just because there are large companies elsewhere, does that mean this is a small pond?” Does it? It’s not. This is a Japanese wrestling symbol and there is plenty to do. I believe it with all my heart, if you can call that a heart. Hahaha!”
Lee began his training in the All Japan Dojo, in 2011, and stayed with the promotion through the end of 2022. He made his debut with Pro Wrestling NOAH, in January 2023.
